Brooklyn Cemetery Project

The Brooklyn Cemetery Project is the work of UGA students enrolled in "The Modern African American Experience," African American Studies/History 3102. We created this exhibition to share our research on Black Athenians who lived during the 19th and 20th centuries. All of these individuals are interred in the historic Brooklyn Cemetery in Athens. There are nearly 1,000 residents buried there. Many of their descendants are still alive and living in Georgia.

We hope you find our work to be instructive. Thank you for visiting.
