Description

Redcoat Band director Roger Dancz dropped the song "Dixie" from the band's repertoire in 1971. Dancz also changed the name of the band from the 'Dixie Redcoat Band' to the 'Redcoat Band'. This was done to ease tensions surrounding the integration of athletics, and with the support of head football coach Vince Dooley. Dooley, in turn, relied on the counsel of Harry 'Squab' Jones in order to decide to remove 'Dixie' as part of the gameday experience.
