The 1946 Bulldogs went 11-0 on the season and were the only unbeaten, untied team in the country at the end of the year. They were named national champions by the Williamson System poll, which is recognized by the NCAA.

The 1968 Bulldogs ended the season with an 8-1-2 record. Despite this, they were named national champions by the Litkenhous poll.

The 1980 Bulldogs were the only unbeaten, untied college football team of that season and won an undisputed national championship.
