Gold mining scrip, 5 dollars, Pigeon Roost Mining Company, 8 November 1837
Pigeon Roost Mining Company issued the first known gold mining scrip, privately issued money, in the country from its company store or office bank. This scrip was issued on on November 8th, 1837 to a Mr. Blackman.
