William A. Harris Memorial Hospital

Constructed in 1928, William A. Harris Memorial Hospital was the first, and for some time the only, private hospital available to Black Atlantans. Living next door to the hospital building, Charles and Sadie Powell, a surgeon and nurse respectively, used their skills to aid the Washington Park community. Both the hospital and the Powell House (their personal residence) still stand today.
