Sylvester Boler, no. 55, was the first Black athlete at Georgia named to an All-SEC team. After his 1974 season, injuries derailed his career and he played only sparingly before being forced to give up football.

In the first ever integrated football game in Sanford Stadium, Georgia and the Houston Cougars played to a 10-10 tie on November 2, 1968.
