Manuel 'Manny' Diaz, a Georgia tennis letterman, became the first non-White head coach at UGA in 1989 when he replaced long-time UGA men's tennis coach Dan Magill, who retired following the 1988 season.
The 1971 Georgia Bulldogs football team. This was the last non-integrated varsity football team at UGA. Five Black players were on the Freshman team, but ineligible for the varsity team under NCAA rules.
Sylvester Boler, no. 55, was the first Black athlete at Georgia named to an All-SEC team. After his 1974 season, injuries derailed his career and he played only sparingly before being forced to give up football.
