The Big Scam

I now want to pivot to explaining Landmark’s motivation for coming to Athens to do business in the first place. One of the consequences of having a place such as Athens exist—where freedom, authenticity, and culture are possible—is that student loans manifest in the economy as artificial demand. With the widespread availability of federal loans, the Athens student housing market has been saturated such that there is an enormous amount of incentive for prospective suppliers – especially if you can go in and take it off the top by building the most immaculate facilities in the ideal locations. To be sure, I’m not saying that less people should be in school. That’s absurd. I’m saying that the government might not have given us all this money out of the goodness in their hearts, but maybe because they knew that we would turn around and give it to their criminal friends on wall street.
